Alplax, also known by other brand names as: Xanax, Xanax XR, Niravam, Alprazolam Intensol, is a pill used to treat Anxiety, Depression, Panic Disorder and in some cases Tinnitus.
Alplax is in a group of drugs called benzodiazepines. Alplax works by slowing down the movement of chemicals in the brain by balancing them when it is necessary, resulting in a reduction of anxiety (nervous tension).
How to use Alplax for the several depression created conditons:
For Panic Disorder
Alplax is FDA-approved for the short term treatment (maximum 8 weeks) of panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia. Alplax is very effective in treating moderate to severe anxiety, essential tremor and panic attacks. However, people with panic disorder have been treated on an open basis for up to 8 months without any apparent problems. The doctor must periodically reevaluate the usefulness of the drug for each individual separately.
For Anxiety Disorder
Alplax is used for the treatment of anxiety disorder or for the short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. Alplax is recommended for the short treatment (maximum 4 weeks) in the case of acute anxiety. Alplax should only very rarely be used for longer periods of time – the body becomes rapidly tolerant to the drug’s effects, which may translate to decreased efficacy.
Alplax is sometimes prescribed for anxiety with associated depression. There is some evidence for antidepressant treatment of clinical depression in outpatient settings; evidence for inpatients is lacking. The antidepressant effects of Alplax may be due to its effects on beta-adrenergic receptors. Other benzodiazepines are not known to have antidepressant activity. Studies show that any antidepressant action of Alplax is questionable and generally weak in comparison to antidepressant medications. Conversely, whilst Alplax in acute or short term treatment may have some antidepressant properties there is evidence that up to a third of long term users of Alplax may develop depression.
Alplax Side Effects
Although Alplax side effects are generally benign, these side effects may appear for some patients and are more likely to appear if a higher dosage of Alplax is taken. Some side effects may disappear after just a few hours. The most common are the allergic reactions, and if an allergic reaction occurs such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat occur you must consult your doctor immediately.
